House in San Rafael, Spain

Barrio y Tausz Arquitectos

The special location in a mountainous environment in San Rafael, Segovia, north-west Madrid and the cold climate were the principal references in the designing of a vacation family house. The plot is wooded with few clearing spaces.

Distributed in two prismatic volumes, sliding along the stairs axis, the house has two different roof solutions. This is because of the local regulations, it is obligated to keep 60% of sloping roof. The project complies with this rule and the solution permits the volumetric adaptation to spaces free of trees.

The main materials election, wood, corten steel and stone which will weather with time and the colour recalls that of the nature elements.

Due to the cor-ten steel material inability to cover wide surfaces with, we decided to use COPPER to it, because this material is flexible enough to support expansions and as time goes by, its colours will be very similar. In addition, copper is a natural material with a perfect integration in the surroundings.

BIOCLIMATIC DESIGN STRATEGIES
PASSIVE
SKYLIGHT-GREENHOUSE in the south façade. In winter, the solar glase causes a collect solar radiation which is distributed to the rest of the house. This is possible due to the dwelling organization specially by the two-storey space. In summer, the big cedar shades the glass.
SUITABLE INSULATION
- Ballom Frame system, suitable insulation and low thermal inertia. U= 0,22.
- Double layer glazing, thermal insulation and argon gas. U= 1,1
ACTIVES
Production system:
