Opened in the autumn of 2015 to the south of Bastia, the cultural center provides a media library and an auditorium, which are connected by a fully transparent glass hall.
The building is covered with a perforated golden copper alloy facade (copper-aluminum), endowing the cultural center with a bronzed skin. The perforated facade provides an opening to the gardens, the city and the sea and protected spaces - calm and bright - for the library. This second skin also provides an ingenious natural ventilation system.
Truly green, the copper alloy façade was chosen for its colour, which will gradually lose its high shine and acquire a warm matt golden surface, giving it’s name "oru" - gold in Corsica – to the center. The copper alloy solution offers the further advantage of not requiring any maintenance, it does not corrode, even when located in a marine environment. Finally, the building meets the requirements of the French ‘Low Consumption Building’ programme.
