Awards

European Copper in Architecture Awards is a biennial showcase celebrating architectural design of buildings incorporating copper or copper alloy cladding, roofing or other architectural elements. The expansion and development of these biennial awards over the last two decades mirrors a fundamental change in the use of copper on buildings, from a practical roof covering to a highly architectural material for many building elements - particularly facades - with endless opportunities for design.

In 2005 HKS was appointed by London Borough of Tower Hamlets to upgrade the facilities for teaching and learning at Chisenhale Primary School, in Bow, East London.

The Royal Playhouse, located on the harbour front in Copenhagen, takes form as a pronounced, yet respectful, completion of the surrounding urban structure.

cube_design were appointed in 2005, to develop an educational masterplan for the rationalisation of the school site which led to the opening in October 2008 of a “state of the art” teaching facility for Science, Music, ICT and Learning Skills.

Clare College required a dedicated lecture theatre for 150 people, catering for delegates, fellows’ offices, 34 new study bedrooms suitable for delegates as well as students, and a student laundry.

The proposed site for the private swimming pool pavilion and associated leisure facilities sits within a private estate in Staffordshire.

The primary concept of the project is the building’s relation to the elements in its existing context, though without considering their actual aesthetic qualities: the long stretch of an urban penetration road, an untidy prefab commercial building and the sparkling line of Jean Nouvel’s minimetrò.
