Office extension, Terre Cortesi Moncaro at Montecarotto, Italy

The company is one of the Italy’s leading wine producers and to keep pace with an increase in production it was necessary to expand the office areas where the business, management, technical and logistic functions are located.

The building’s facade is organized in two parts: the base, realized through traditional sandstone and brickwork, typical local materials; the upper section, clad with perforated pre-patinated copper sun-screens, which reinforce the relationship between the landscape and the building.

From a technical point of view, the extension at ground floor level consists of steel columns with a floor structure in corrugated steel, vapor barrier, insulation and waterproof membrane.

The frames are made of painted aluminum and large thermo-acoustic glass panels.  The pillars of the project copy the existing structure, leaving the spacing between pillars unchanged, ensuring the functionality of the new and the old.

The south-facing elevation will be subject to thermal gains.  To address this issue it was decided that an external covering would be applied to the building.  This covering, which also covers the steel structure, is made of two walls separated by a gap and thermal insulator.  The outer wall, made of stone and brick, is anchored to the pillar structure through horizontal girders, visible from the outside, which also serve as a support for the upper part of the brickwork.  The covering for the copper panels is supported by a steel structure fixed on existing pillars.
