This small building is very important for us, because it has allowed us to express some of the main objectives of the studio: the sustainability of our projects, in this case by taking advantage of an existing building; attention to design – this is self-explanatory; functional and compositional simplicity; and interest in the relationship between the building and its surroundings.
Infant perception is enhanced by the use of materials – such as copper, wood, artificial turf, natural vegetation and soil of the garden – with very different chromatic properties and textures.
We used a combination of bright and contrasting colors, with an attractive chromatic strength for the children, inviting them to enter the school. Two boxes of different colors, which serve as a bridge between the interior space and the yard, make the arrival and departure more fun for the children – like a link with a different scale, closer to them.
This is an intervention that seeks to create an emotional bond between the users and the building, which becomes independent of the environment, facilitating the perception of users.
